Campaign „Human rights NOW, Romani rights HERE”

„Human rights NOW, Romani rights HERE” is an educational campaign carried during this year's LFO in cooperation with Amnesty International.

The volunteers will collect signatures under the petition in case of evictions of Romani community from the city Kluz-Napoka in Romania. Violation of Romani rights in Europe is still an important problem. Forced evictions, segregation of children at schools, racist attacks – it happens in the European Union, that is proud to respect for freedom and diversity. Evictions are not only the violation of the right to live, but violation of human rights as well. Evictions break the right to security, privacy and respect of family life, right to education or health care.

Life Festival Oświęcim joins the defenders of these rights, its spokeswoman dr Joanna Talewicz-Kwiatkowska, who represends Rom Community in Poland says: „It is a very good thing that actions supporting Romani will be present at this year's LFO. This community is a minority in every country. Economical crisis and rise of popularity of ultra right-winged organisations caused an outbreak of violence to immigrants, including Romani and radicalised policy to them. Evictions, collecting fingerprints, placing them in camps at suburbs has been a standard in some countries of today's Europe. One cannot be neutral to practics that summon memories from the II World War. That is why I appreciate and support campaigns and educational actions of Amnesty International, the organisation that defends those whose voice is often unheard.”
