The workshop „Forced evictions – what would you do if someone commands you to leave your home”

The organisers of Life Festival Oświęcim and Amnesty International have prepared the workshop, concerning Rom communities: „Forced evictions – what would you do if someone commands you to leave your home”.

What would you do if someone tells you that tommorow, or in a week or month you will have to leave your home and a temporary flat is located 40 km. Away, nearby a garbage dump. This question is unfortunatelly answered every day by many people in the World and in Europe, where the Rom communities are the victims of forced evictions. The workshop will learn what are the forced evictions and why home is a lot more than the roof over your head. The participants will learn what a discrimination is and how to react against the discrimination. An example of this occurence will be the discrimination of Rom in Europe. The workshop will take place on the 27th of June in Centrum Żydowskie in Oświęcim.

Weronika Rokicka, the coordinator of educationa campaign of Amnesty International says: „The participants of this event will have the opportunity to find out that we are all in some kind of a minority and everyone may be the victim of discrimination. They will find out how the stereotypes work and why they are always unfair. Draginja Nadaždin the director of Amnesty International Poland adds: „ The solidarity action of all european societies is the only way to stop discrimination and violating Roms rights. Every person that will come to our stand at the Festival will have the opportunity to join the european action of Amnesty International.”
